Perspective Of Yet Another Night Owl

Upcoming Weekend Getaway!!!! YEAH!!

This weekend we are planning a trip to Tamarack, West Virginia.  I cannot wait to get out of town for the weekend.  I have worked very hard this week to have both Saturday and Sunday off with the family.  All I want to do is sneak away with them all, high in the mountains where our cell phones do NOT work.  I want to shop for hand-blown glass this weekend and maybe some other intriguing gifts for Christmas.  Some of what we are looking at is at this website: http://www.tamarackwv.com/.  Visiting this wonderful natural place of beauty, shop for some artisan specialties, maybe stop at the New River

and show our children where some of the best bungee jumping and bridge jumping is found.

I really would like to find a few of these:

I really just cannot wait to go!  One more wake up at 7:30 AM, Work from 10 AM to 11:30 PM, sleep and up early Saturday to sneak away for the night! I am so super excited about it, I don’t think I will even care if the kids scream for the entire 5-6 hour car ride (each way)!

I recently hired a woman (an adult, a welcome change) to be a shift runner/manager and am currently training her.  This will give some much needed time off to my only management help, my assistant manager.  He works nearly as many hours as I do. We both need a break!!  This week I have been at work more than anything else.  The store is open from 10 AM to 10 or 11 PM depending on the day.   My schedule this week is: 10a-9p, 10a-10:30p, 4p-10:30p, 10-10:30, 10-11/12 -(extra hours for management stuff) and off Saturday and Sunday, except by phone.  This schedule requires my current manager to pull 10-11’s 2 days in a row, along with opens and closes when I am not there.  Obviously a back-up, my new hire, is needed before we both burn out.

My new hire is catching on to everything managment wise. Health codes, the POS System, CSC, Inventory, etc.  It has been a pleasure to train her.  She is a quick learner. She still is working on the physical parts of the job, in particular dough slapping.  Learning to slap dough with a perfect edge and sized crust, perfectly round, without bubbles is hard and takes practice and time.  I feel we will get there, no problem.  The physical part of the job takes more time to learn than the paperwork side.  She is actually going to close this Saturday while I am away.  My assistant manager will stay on in the store, as a back-up, but only there if needed for questions or in case there is a sudden rush of business.  I hope (but know) all will  go well.  I have never pushed someone to learn so much in such a little bit of time.  That though, is the difference between an adult and a kid fresh from High School.

Yea! You have fun on your getaway! My husband won’t part with the dog long enough for us to take a trip. Grrr!!! 🙂 Anyway, you definitely deserve a break from all the activity you’ve had going on. Good for you!

Just got home from work tonight. Although the last hour was more “hanging out” and easy to handle. :o) I cannot wait to go this weekend.

Mary Jane, What type of art does your husband do? And, not to worry, we LOVE to eat all kinds of foods, so we will absolutely be sure to try all the different things to eat.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Shades, I know how you feel about the husband and parting with the dog. My hubby won’t go anywhere unless someone is physically staying at our house to be with the family pets (a cat, dog & turtle). Since he works from home, all the additions to our family are USED to someone being here for them 100% of the time. It’s a good thing that we have plenty of friends looking for that weekend of peace and hanging out with our pets! ;o)

He is a face jug artist. he does jugs, mugs, shot, pitchers, jars and shot glasses. Have fun. I think some of the glass you showed is Ron Hinkle, a friend of ours. He is very talented.

Mary Jane, I saw those face mugs this weekend. They were so neat. Really cute too!

We just got back about an hour ago and I am tired so I am off to bed. I will do a quick post about our trip later this week.

Oooh i love your pictures. We go on trips and leave Patch with grandpa. My dad always stays at the house and house and dog sits. Since it looks like my parents won’t be grandparents-except for my dog and my younger brother’s dog-We call him grandpa. And Patch knows who grandpa is. The only thing about going on trips is Jedd always picks the destinations-casinos. One day I will travel to see lighthouses. My dream getaway! Mmmmmm-dreaming…
