Perspective Of Yet Another Night Owl

Here’s what I have been up to lately…

It’s been a couple of weeks since I quit my job, and believe it or not, I have managed to fill up the 60 hours a week that I had on my hands.  I have managed to get my house in some assemblence of order (although there is still stuff to be done).  I have started some gardening (which was desperately needed), treated myself (hair cut, color, high-lights, mani- and pedicure), had lunch with friends and family, and spent time with the husband.  The husband and I also planted 2 dwarf pear trees in our yard.  Can’t wait for them to bear fruit.

We took a mini camping trip this past weekend which was a lot of fun.  The kids participated in a ton of activities at the camp ground.  My youngest daughter won a scavenger hunt and made a tye-dye t-shirt.  (more…)

Susan G. Komen National Race For The Cure® on June 7, 2008!!

As you all know, my Mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last year.  Since then, I have been trying to find ways to support the fight against breast cancer.   Recently, I accepted the challenge (thanks Mom) to support the fight against breast cancer by participating in Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure® on June 7, 2008 in Washington, DC.  Mom and I will be walking (definately not running) with the BCL Breast Center of Loudoun team.

Please join me by pledging to support my participation in the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure®. The generosity of our donors is vital as we continue our efforts to help breast cancer patients today, as well as to invest in the health of future generations. It is easy to support this great cause. You can make a pledge online by simply clicking on the link to my personal pledge page at the bottom of this post. If you would prefer there is also a downloadable form to send in pledges through the mail. Any contribution amount will make a difference in the lives of many!! I (and my Mom) truly appreciate your generosity and will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you so much for your time and support in the fight against breast cancer. Best protection is early detection!

Have you ever hated something so much that it hurts? The pain unbearable and nothing, absolutely nothing makes it go away?  Have you ever felt like you just want to rip your heart out and bury it deep beneath the earth, just so that you don’t feel the ache in it anymore?  Have you ever felt so lost because the one person in your life who loved you NO MATTER WHAT, was no longer physically there to hear you when you called?  No longer there to hug you when you needed a huge bear hug??  That is what October 19 does to me.  (more…)

While on our trip to Jamaica, we contacted Chef of http://www.chefsjamaicatours.5u.com/ for a day trip to Blossom Garden Orphanage.  First, let me say that Chef is an extremely personable man running a tour business in Jamaica.  He was kind enough to not charge us for this trip as we were there to donate much needed school supplies.  This was a very generous offer as gas prices in Jamaica are equivilant to ours here.  We did pay for the gas and tipped Chef as well for his generosity.

As for the orphanage, I was pleasently surprised to see that the center was located in a middle class neighborhood in Montego Bay.  The house was rather small for the sheer number of children residing at the center, which at this time is 60 children and currently at capacity.  (more…)

I so feel like a kid in a candy shop right now.  Our house sitter is here, we packed the car and are headed off.  We arrived at my mom’s house tonight, the night before our flight.  It puts us close to the airport and we can sleep in a bit later in the morning.  God knows that I will need it, as I am way too excited to sleep! Those of you that have been following my blog lately know that we are about to leave for Jamaica.  We only have 2 more sleeps to go!!  Then we will be basking in Montego Bay, Jamaica for 8 nights and 9 days and we are so excited about it.  We have the plans to visit Ocho Rios, Dunns River Falls, Rose Hall, Negril, and Montego Bay’s Margaritaville.  I will have lots of photos to share when we return and will post about our trip.

We have purchased a collection of school supplies and scholastic books for donations to the children at the Sandy Bay Basic School or Blossom Garden Orphanage.  We are still up in the air as to which place our hired driver has made arrangements, but I know either place will be happy to receive the supplies we have purchased.

school supplies These are some of the supplies we purchased.  There is construction paper, crayons, chalk, spiral notebooks, scissors, rulers, scholastic books and more!

Well, I must get back to packing as we still have lots of that to do today.  I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe summer. :)

I have not been able to get this school out of my mind.   I have read on some of the Jamaica forums at http://www.tripadvisor.com about this school.  Since finding the photos, all I want to do is help. Things we often take for granted here in the US, like crayons, chalk and flash cards, are expensive in Jamaica and not always readily available to these kids.  I hope those sites, don’t mind me reposting the photos here, as I hope to get the word out about this school.  (more…)

We are getting so close to leaving on our trip to Jamaica. Less than a month to go and the excitement is enough to make you burst!  We are staying at the Holiday Inn Sun Spree all-inclusive resort, not top of the line, but not bottom either.  They have great programs for the kids and anything that we could possibly want all day long. There are four restaurants, three pools, numerous bars, a fitness room, private beach, local shopping, and much more.  I am sure the post upon our return will be full of stories and relaxation. Why? Is it just me?

Why is it always this way? Is it just me and my life, or does it happen to you too?   A lot of parents are busy these days with work, multiple children and life in general.  They have to be in two places at once and it’s an endless cycle juggling the kids and everything else Mom and Dad have to do.  It’s good for your kids though, the sports, staying after school for clubs, volunteering, etc. It helps to build character and discipline. They learn teamwork and what it means to be a part of something.   (more…)
