Perspective Of Yet Another Night Owl

The results are in….Let’s do our part.

It’s 2 AM here and I am not surprised, but I am still nervous about the election results.  My historically Republican state (Virginia) has voted Democratic for the first time in a long while.  It’s only the northern few counties that made that happen (population per capita).

Regardless of how I voted, however, I am American.  I was born and raised in the U.S.A. and I stand by and behind my country first and foremost.  Even when I don’t agree with the majority.  Why, because that is the freedom of democracy.  The election and the privilege to vote is our right as citizens of this great country.  The democratic process that is in place is what we, as Americans, have come to expect and accept.  Even if we don’t always agree. And if you don’t expect and accept the democratic process by now, you had better learn to do so. And quickly.  It is what our free society has always been. Majority rules.

Even though I am not thrilled with the outcome, I am going to take John McCain’s concession speech to heart and support President Obama as best as I morally can.  I will still fight against some issues. I will support our country as it faces the challenges about to be put to us. I will support President Obama as best I can to make America what it should be. I will take seriously President Obama’s request for the entire country to work together and I will do my part to make America continue to be the best country in the world.

In the meantime, a little prayer wouldn’t hurt.

God Bless Everyone.

Temporary Bar Tender

Exciting news for me!  I have been asked by my local favorite watering hole’s owner to tend bar for a month.  One of the full-time bar gals is going on a well deserved month long trip.  Rather than hire someone that they really don’t need on staff, they have asked me, one of their favorite patrons.  I cannot tell you how excited I am about this.  I already have a posse who plans to come and hang out while I am there.  Look at that, I have already increased business.  :)

So, I went up today for lunch to learn the POS system they use.  That took about 10 minutes and I have it down, no problem.  I already know the menu, although they recently hired a new chef who plans to change things up a bit.  I can already mix most drinks being that I have experience drinking said mixed drinks, so I foresee no real problems with this temporary position.  Who knows?  Maybe I will love it and stick around a bit after all is said and done.   Wish me luck and if you are in the area, come and have a drink!

Kitchen Gadgets ~ Gotta Have It

Bored with the same old tap water? Want to make your midnight potty trips more exciting? Are you asking “What have they thought of now?”  Apparently, you can turn any ordinary faucet into a fantasy faucet.  These new gadgets attach to the end of your current faucet and when the water flows, your rainbow appears!  There are two to choose from.  One stays LED Blue all the time.  The second, changes color from LED Blue to LED Red once the water temperature hits 89 degrees.  That is cool and I think I am going to have to try one of these bad boys out.  If nothing else, I can tell myself I bought it so that my 9 year old doesn’t burn herself!  These attachments apparently work on most US faucets and come with two adapters.  They are only $12.99 to $19.99!!  Now that’s cheap fun!  Check it out:

Happy Turkey Day

I know it is a bit early, but I am planning on being busy this week.  Tomorrow morning (this morning) I leave for my weekend get away.  I can’t wait!!!  I am working Monday through Wednesday, but come 5 PM Wednesday, I am off to my Mom’s house.  We are planning the annual get together at her house.  I am going to help her cook the turkey and all the fixings: sweet potatos, mashed potatos, green bean casserole, salad, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce, pumpkin and pecan pies, etc., etc.  I plan to be extremely fat, full and happy while watching some serious NFL football, having a second slice of pumpkin and pecan pie.   And if you don’t think it’s right to eat turkey, I think the Gobbler below just might agree! ;)

I wish the happiest of holidays to you all.  May you all be blessed with the love of family and friends over the Thanksgiving Holiday and all the year through.

 HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!

DMV ~ Ummm…SUCKS!

In Virginia, DMV means “Division of Motor Vehicles”.  This is where we (residents of VA) go to get our driver’s license, license plates, register our cars, boats, etc.   DMV is always busy and has been since I started driving 17 years ago.  Ever since I can remember, you waited at least 20 minutes to be helped.    They have closed some offices.  There are now satellite offices that handle every thing BUT ID’s/Licenses to drive.  But since 9/11DMV has become harder to deal with and I think MORE STUPID.   It has not gotten busier, just more impossible.

Today, DMV screwed me, and didn’t even have the decency to pick up the tab! (more…)

What’s Been Going On Lately….

Youth Football season ended last week for us when my son and daughters’ teams were knocked out in the playoffs.  The Championship Games were played today.  We didn’t see the games, our first Saturday morning off since September.

I am working a bit more now with the unused football hours.  It’s a great chance to give my assistant manager a break.  He has been working quite hard and a lot of hours so that I could coach and be as active as possible in my kids’ activities.  So, I closed tonight.  I don’t think I have ever worked a Saturday, even in the pizza business.  I know it sounds weird (most request Sunday) but I have always reserved Saturday for family.  I quickly got over it, but it did feel odd to me to be headed to work on a Saturday.

I miss football season already.  I miss the girls practicing their cheers.  The hugs and smiles and hard work, even when they would rather be playing “webkins”.   I miss all the kids playing and having fun.  The total parental support of hundreds of parents.  I miss the games and wish I had gotten up and went to watch the Championship games today.  I was being lazy and well, frankly, it’s gotten very cold lately.  I hate the cold. OMG ~ It’s Crazy ‘Round Here!

My husband is out of town for the week on business.  Oh, how I miss him. I talk to him a few times a day, so it’s not too bad.  I am just used to him being here, always.  It is rare he has to leave town on business.  I really miss the help with the kids.  I have to give the husband credit where credit is due.  I thought dealing with the kids in the morning was “no biggy” but apparently, it only was “no biggy” for me because the hubby does it!

The hubby really is a big help with the kids, particularly in the mornings.  And, I so miss the coffee being ready when I get downstairs!  I am not an early riser and rarely can pull it off.  I have overslept on the kids 2 days in a row, having to drive the youngest to school while the other two run around crazy getting ready because I am still comatose!  Oh, one more thing.  It really is IMPOSSIBLE to keep the house clean 100% of the time.  I have told the hubby that it just shouldn’t get messy.  Well, now I know better.  Stuff is everywhere because we are constantly rushed.  (Note to self - clean house before hubby gets home, so he doesn’t know! LOL)

So, this one is for the hubby!  He is missed terribly right now, in more ways than one.   :)

So When Were You Going To Tell Me?

I have had quite a few visitors to my blog and I have posted many comments on other blogs.  When was someone going to tell me that I do not know how to spell the word “definitely”??  I am sure that I have other typos, but those are most likely typos.   I even take the extra time to type ”definitely” carefully and did not realize until tonight that I have been misspelling it for years!   I have always spelled it: d-e-f-i-n-A-t-e-l-y.  Now, I am not asking the blog world to pick apart my posts, but if you should happen to notice that I am consistently spelling the same word wrong, please let me know.    And before you tell me to use the spell-check, you should know that I do. The WordPress spell check apparently does not catch this mistake.  Thanks a bunch!

The Mayonaise Jar & 2 Cups of Coffee

A good reminder about life……The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls . He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. (more…)

The Definition of Success

To laugh often and love much;
To win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; t
o give ones self;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm, and sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived –
This is to have succeeded.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

This particular quote means so much to me and has helped me through many rough times.  I hope it can bring something special to you, too.

Accomplishments, New Friends & the Weekend

I have accomplished quite a bit today.  The laundry is washed and folded, the kids are packed for our weekend getaway, the camper is clean, stocked with food and ready to go.  I made some calls about MK, stayed current on the recent blog posts, and I think I made a few new friends in cyberspace today. :)   Wow! But, just when I thought I had it all done, the dog runs through the house then up and over the couch with muddy paws.  I now get to add an hour or so of scrubbing to the list.  I am looking forward to getting away even more.
