Perspective Of Yet Another Night Owl

Texas….It’s been fun so far and Uncle’s surgery went great!

Hey all!  I thought I would  take a few minutes and let you know how the vacation/family help has been going.  My uncle’s back surgery went off without any hitches.  The doctor says he has the bones of a much younger man, even though he is in his 70′s.  He was able to come home from the hospital the following morning and has been doing really well with his recovery.  Now, if we could just get this workaholic to just relax without trying to work from home.  My uncle and I have been doing the restaurant row thing for dinner nightly, except the night he stayed over in the hospital.  For those of you familiar with Dallas, I am talking about Beltline Road/Restaurant Row.  Let me tell you, there are soooo many restaurants, it’s hard to decide where to eat.  I think we will be doing leftovers for the next day or two, just so we can empty the refrigerator.  The one night he was not home to eat with us, we got a pizza from Whole Foods which was pretty darn good.  My aunt and I have decided that cooking this week is overrated.

My cousin’s kids have been a lot of fun to hang around with.  They are so cute!!  Their little boy is so full of energy and just a complete image of his father when he was young.  Such a great little man to play with and so loving.  I just love getting him on the bus in the morning and retrieving him in the afternoon.  His little eyes light up whenever he sees me.  Makes me miss my kids a bunch.  Their little girl, the princess, is as sweet as can be and so very smart.  She and I have been doing homework together and having a lot of fun watching girly movies together and cuddling on the couch.

Last night, when we went to pick up dinner at PF Changs (YUM) my aunt actually sat at the bar with me while I had a cocktail. Since the restaurants here are non-smoking, she was able to hang out inside with me.  This was a much needed cocktail, as we are actually in a dry county here in North Dallas.  Not to mention, my aunt and uncle are not drinkers (at all) so there is no alcohol in the house.  I was about to go nuts, so that vodka (Stholis) rocks, was a good and strong one.  I could buy some a bring it home, but as you all know, I am not really an “at home” drinker.  I much prefer the bar and socialization that comes with it.

I may swing by the Mary Kay building and check it out today.  Even though I am not doing Mary Kay anymore, I think it would be cool to see it while I am here.  I also am hoping to get a chance to stop by the State Fair.  I am not huge into rides that leave the ground, but I hear there are some pretty cool things to see there.  Not to mention, any fair that requires school holidays (and yes, you heard that right, they get out of school for this around here) has got to be seen!  Anyway, we are off to do a bit of shopping.  I have some souvenirs to get for friends and want to get some gifts for my kids.

The Mole’s Screen Name Is….

Since I announced that I was Mole #1 (see post: The Mole Comes Out), the curiosity of my PT identity has peaked.  On a post called Shay’s Good Bye Cruel World at Banned from the Bitchfest, a few fellow biatches have been trying to guess my Pink Truth screen name.  As I was responding to one of the posts, I thought to myself, this game is fun, but it’s not the BFBF biatches that should be “playing” Ms. Investigator.  I mean, they never said they were the great fraud investigator.  It was the Ms. Self-proclaimed Awesome Fraud Investigator herself, Tracy Coenen.  I guess TC doesn’t want to play my lowly little “Guess the Mole” game. :(   Maybe she will want to play this game:

Which one is me?? Which one will you whack??  Oops.  Remember, you whacked eyecicle and stalkedbythemarykaylady.  Wrong twice!  You are such a “looser”!  Sorry, I couldn’t resist that one. Read on to find out my screen name! (more…)

Flying Forehands #11 at Emerald Seminar 2007!!

The news flash for the Flying Forehands Unit from Emerald Seminar 2007 is: As a unit we placed #11 this year at Seminar!  My Director and her husband also earned a trip to Sweden and leave September 20.  I guess that had to do with how well our unit did as a whole.  I am new enough to MK that I don’t always understand unit rankings and all that jazz.  And, honestly, I hadn’t paid too much attention to it before.  But #11??  That’s damn close to the top, assuming there are numerous units. Maybe some of you more seasoned MKers can enlighten me on this stuff.

And The Secret Is…..

Some of you know, that recently I have been up to something secretive. Today, I am spilling the beans.

About a month ago, there were some changes within the franchise that I worked for up until early 2005.  I left that company with a very heavy heart, having loved my job, but going through some pretty rough personal issues.  My father had passed away in October 2004 and that sent me into a depression, although I didn’t realize it at the time.  A month after my father passed, just before Thanksgiving, I found a dear friend and wonderful employee of mine, face down and blue in her bed.  No amount of CPR that I was doing was helping and although they were able to revive her for a minute or two at the hospital, Ms. Helen, also passed away.

Ms. Helen and her daughter both worked for me then.  Helen’s death was hard on me and my employees, as she was “Mom” to us all.  I tried hard to keep things together, but by March 2005, I was not able to continue to run my store properly the way it needed to be run and the way I wanted to run it.   If I didn’t do something quick, the store would suffer too.  I threw in the towel and decided my place was at home until I figured out how to get over the depression. There are only a few days left to participate in this survey (through August 10, 2007), and I encourage all Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants to do so. I just took the survey myself and I think the feedback MKC receives will help to improve the products that they are asking about. Some of the products they are asking for feedback on are: TimeWise Miracle Set (both skin types), MicroDermabrasion, Satin Lips, MK Signature Creme Lipsticks, MK Signature Mascara, and Foundations. Mary Kay InTouch – New Look?

I had not logged on to Mary Kay Intouch since July 10, 2007.  I know, shame on me.  To my credit, I was in Jamaica July 13 – 21, so I was obviously not worried about MK then. (Sorry, MK, but I do have priorities, and Jamaica wins over MK.)  Upon returning home, I was too excited about sharing our vacation with everyone, catching up on backed up emails, and then sneaking off to the beach one more time before football and cheerleading start.  Next week my life becomes the football leagues until December.

Lately, my MK sales have been small, mostly because I choose to do family things rather than MK stuff and have been basically doing re-orders only.  I have not been actively working towards building my customer base and neglected to go to InTouch.  I was relying on emails from Directors and MK contacts.  Even though I had approximately 100 emails since July 13 that were MK related (duplicates from more than 1 director), that I can recall, none of them mentioned the changes on InTouch.  Tonight, I logged on and WHOA!  There is a whole new InTouch look!  (more…)

Busy Schedules

So we decided that we needed to run off to the beach real quick this weekend.  And we are, right after some errands in the morning including football weigh-ins!  We are heading to Chincoteague and Assateague Island in Virginia.  We are taking the pop-up camper and making a cheap weekend of it, coming back Monday night.  Pony Penning week just ended there and most people will probably be leaving as we are coming in.  It should be a nice quiet weekend, even if we get hit with the thunderstorms over the next few days.  I know we need the rain.  And at the beach, everything is OK! Can you tell that I miss Jamaica already?? (more…)

Blog Wars ~ It’s all about respect!

I have a MySpace page and belong to quite a few pro-MK Groups on MySpace. Many of these groups try to keep the atmospheres there positive. If we wanted an anti-MK site/group, we would either create one or go visit one, right?  I am a firm believer that one should not go to someone else’s sandbox and create a bunch of mud.  If you want to muddy your sand box, fine, but please don’t muddy up mine.  If you can do that for me, I will do the same for you.  It all boils down to respect! Blog Wars

Battle of the Blogs

If you have been reading up on Mary Kay, I am sure you have seen the numerous blogs out there, both pro and anti-MK.  It’s even gone a step further and now there are blogs that are “anti anti”.  There are more blogs out there, but the few listed here are the ones I am going to talk about today.  Since I don’t want this blog to be a Blog war or a Pro or Anti-MK blog, this is probably the only post I will have that refers to all this.

Background: I found these when I was looking for information about MK after joining this year.  I reviewed them, had lots of questions, got some answers, and made my decision to stay with MK as a consultant.  I have no desire to become a team leader or director.  I am not out to make millions either.  I just want to have some fun with it and if I earn some extra spending money, hey that’s a bonus I won’t throw away! That said, I think someone getting involved with MK now, should know about these blogs before getting sucked into one over the other.  I am going to try and be fair to all in this post, but I have formed my own opinions which I am sure will shine through.  I am sure someone may not like what I have to say, but oh well.  Remember, all bogs are full of opinions that some may or may not agree with.  That is the great thing about opinions; we all have a right to have them.  (more…)
